Recently it’s been crashing 4 or 5 times a day. It crashes when I click Reader View, which I love. It’s great for de-cluttering the screen, getting rid of advertisements, and magnifying the screen to a comfortable level. It doesn’t always crash. Most of the time it works like it’s supposed to, but then, for no apparent reason, it crashes FireFox. If I then restart FireFox, either from the crash report screen, or just click the icon, everything works as normal for a while. Once in a while, if I leave the Reader View screen open for a while (phone call, went for a cup of coffee, etc), FireFox will have crashed when I get back.
Very annoying. I’ve been using FireFox since it first came out. On the whole it’s been a great product but in the last year or so I’ve found it just too unstable. What I used to get was multiple crashes every day on different PCs and different versions of windows. I always used to send crash reports but it didn’t help. Every day I’d get the same thing, the memory consumed by FireFox just kept rising until it crashed. I tend to keep a browser open all the time and keep my PC on 24/7. Some suggested I don’t do this and even don’t visit some of my regular web pages (like bbc.co.uk). Turning off features etc didn’t make any difference. Anyhow I changed to Chrome and since then (2 months now) I haven’t had a single problem. I use it in the same way.
Same add-ons, same web pages etc. Not one problem. Some of the techies on the forums were suggesting that the problem was with the web pages I was visiting – bad Java or Html code. However, Chrome perfectly stable with the same web pages! The memory usage doesn’t run away.Comments are closed.
